How to Make - DIY Earring Holder

DIY Earring Holder
Repurposed items are such a great way to add vintage charm to your home. One of the things I always look for at thrift stores & yard sales are wooden coat hangers - you can use them a million ways! I upcycled one to be an earring holder - and of course a little graphic embellishment is always on the agenda.

To make this project you'll need:
coat hanger
Mod Podge Image Transfer Medium
an image
scissors,
a drill with a small drill bit
small eye hooks
It's hard to photograph and drill at the same time, but as you can see, I drilled holes in the bottom edge of the hanger and then inserted the eye hooks. If you have a hard time finding a small enough drill bit, use a 1/16 and then put a tiny bit of hot glue on the hooks before inserting them into the holes. They'll fit like a dream!

Next, take your image and carefully trim it out right along the lines of the graphic. Do not leave any white space around it, because it will show. If you're cutting isn't what it used to be, punch it out with an oval or circle punch to look more intentional :)

Next, put a layer of Photo Transfer Medium - you're looking for a solid, even layer. Then put your image, wet side down on to your piece where you want it and smooth it out to be secure. Let it dry for 24 hours before the next step.

When it's cured, lightly wet the image and peel the paper off by rubbing it carefully. Let it dry and you're done!

The whole project takes under half an hour (minus drying time) - and you'll be ready to hang up all your earrings so you can find the right one in a snap!

See ya next week, but in the mean time I'd love to see you on my blog at The Shabby Creek Cottage.

  1. Painting the hanger with Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint, or some chalk paint by Annie Sloane (sp?) would be really charming, too. Thanks for the idea!
