I was selected, via Blogher, to review ArchetypeMe.com, an interesting, new website that helps people discover more about themselves! I love anything to do with personal development and I've spent loads of time reading books, and blog posts about self improvement. I'm also an avid viewer of Oprah's network (I love Super Soul Sunday and Life Class especially!), so I was really excited to take part in this program.
My assignment for this first post is to discuss, "Who do I think I am?" Well now, that's kind of a big question for any of us, isn't it? We are pretty complex, us humans! The first thing I did was ask my best friend what he thought...
And he was no help what so ever! Ok, seriously though, here are a few of my own thoughts... I am a child of God. I am a Woman. I am a Wife and a Mother. I am a friend. I am a Blogger and a Business Person. I am an introvert. I can be shy until I get to know you, and sometimes that gets mistaken for snobbishness. I am sensitive. I love animals (especially my Corgi!). I love old things, like antiques and old farmhouses and even old people, and I have since I was a little girl. I am creative. I guess I could go on and on, but I'll stop here for now.
I was also asked... what would I like to change about my personality? I guess it would be the fact that I tend to have a hard time with change. I get stuck in a rut with my routines. I tend to eat the same foods every day, wear similar outfits each day, do the same tasks each day, etc. When my routine gets disrupted, it can throw me off, unless I'm able to plan in advance for it. It would be nice to be able to be more at ease with being spontaneous.
The purpose of ArchetypeMe is to help you know the world, and yourself, better, all through the filter of archetypes! Have you ever wondered ... Who am I? Why do I like the things that I like? Why do people act the way they do? Why do we get along so well with some people and not with others? Once you get to know your archetype, as well as those of your friends and family, all of these things make more sense.
If you've been scratching your head over these kinds of questions, then try checking out the new website, ArchetypeMe.com, and take the quiz to discover your archetype! The website is dedicated to curated self-expression and personal discovery, through the filter of archetypes. How intriguing!
If you want to explore more about what archetypes can reveal to you, then check out the book "Archetypes: Who Are You?" which is currently available. Also, watch for the new webisode series that will be premiering at the end of January/early February.
{I'll be taking the quiz too and will follow up in another post, with the results. I'm excited to see what it reveals!}

what an interesting concept. I think it can be important to know about ourselves and our preferences so we can know people types and areas of our personality that will take more effort and care to branch out and get to know/develop.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to know who we are, who God made us to be, so that we can be more effective in our lives-- not wasting time on things that don't matter.
ReplyDeleteI am a Dharma bum constantly searching for truth. My art helps me do that.
ReplyDeleteIt's too easy to pass the days unthinking, just taking things as they come and not looking too closely at our motivations for doing things. I think it's a wonderful exercise, and one I'd love to do! I think I'd benefit, my writing would benefit, and I think as a mother and wife, there would be a visible benefit to this, too.
ReplyDeleteI took the quiz and it says I'm the creative type. No surprise there, eh? It was fun!
ReplyDeleteTo thy own self be true....know yourself, your ideas, beliefs. =) Guess I am the creative type, I thought that might happen.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to ask ourselves the question of Who We Are since it can shine a light inside our soul and force introspection; Life is very hectic and busy and we need to spend time to focus on our "selves" - knowledge is power!
ReplyDeleteI think the most important reason to investigate who we are, is to find peace with it. Accepting your own wonderful traits AND your flaws makes you more accepting of others. Thanks for the generous giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI think this is just what the doctor ordered! I need a bit of soul searching to figure out my next move & get outta this funk!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting post! Love your blog by the way!
ReplyDeleteAs it's been said, you must love yourself before you can love anyone else. The same goes for knowing yourself. You must know yourself in order to make appropriate decisions in your life. You must know yourself before you can react in a healthy manner to what and who comes into your life. While I love creating, I also feel that I should in turn reach out with what I have learned to help others who are just starting on this creative path. That is why I love your clip art site. It is so rare for someone in the marketplace to not hoard their information to themselves - afraid that someone will "steal" their ideas. Share and spread your knowledge - it will come back to you ten times over. But to do that - you must know and be faithful to yourself.
ReplyDeleteBy the way - I don't think I said to allow my comment to serve as an entry to the contest. I've shouted out on my Facebook pages. I hope it helps to spur some creative ideas during my "duh" days!
ReplyDeleteI'm...uh um, fifty five years old and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother... when you wear so many hats it's hard to take the hat off and just be "ME". Thanks for sharing this and another great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Pendra
It's important to know who you are so you can achieve what you want in life and to make yourself happy.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you know yourself, others can know the real you, too, and relationships, of all kinds, are better.

This is rather timely for me(us). Three of us girls have just started a monthly tea where we discuss who we are and where we want to go in 2013. Really looking at who you are helps us to understand why we make the choices we do, and not be afraid to do it. Thanks ever so much. I really enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's a constant work to get to know what makes you tick. I took the quiz--I'm Caregiver ;o)
ReplyDeleteI took the quiz, creative and spiritual. I think it is important to know who you are so you can use your talents to the best of your ability. That was fun.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! Love learning new things about personality, etc. Thanks for sharing this with your readers!
ReplyDeleteExploring why we feel and do the things we do and also why others feel and do what they do helps with understanding and with understanding comes acceptance of ourselves and others. I would love to read Archetypes: Who Are You? and am going to take a look at the website now. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI guess when we understand who we are, what we are good at, and our core values we are free to focus on the things we should be. We no longer think we have to do and be every thing.
ReplyDeletei've heard of archetypes but never really studied them or determined who i am in relationship to the list of archetypes. it sounds like this might be something i would like to explore. thank you for the opportunity to win.
ReplyDelete'Scuse me for sayin', but your are cute as a button, you know it? And that blue sweater with those blue eyes? Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, what you wrote about. Yeah. I'm gonna check it out!
I think it's important to know yourself because then you're able to more easily make decisions, whether it's about what to do on the weekend, what to order at dinner, or what kind of person to spend your time with. Otherwise, you're likely to spend a lot of time and effort and energy on things that don't bring joy to your life.

ReplyDeleteHere is my scary thought: I never do any kind of soul searching because I'm afraid I won't like what I find out. So, I guess I am a coward :) Don't tell anyone I said this!
ReplyDeleteI dunno...there's an awful lot of navel-examining going on right now. So many people examine themselves, that they forget to examine and/or help others more.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm curious -- but more interested in learning about others than myself. I already pretty much know who I am.
Would love the gift card, though!
I'm a blend, leaning toward creativity! Karen, you're the BEST! We all love your blog and your creativity!
ReplyDeleteIf I know who I REALLY am, then I am more confident and outgoing, which allows me to lift and strengthen others. They can pay it forward.... which means lots of people are happier and more content. And that makes the world a better place.

ReplyDeleteI have always been interested in self-exploration and self-improvement stuff. I think many people are afraid to get to know themselves, are afraid to be alone with themselves. But once we get to know our deeper selves, we can work on what we think is more important and make changes that positively influence our personal and professional lives. For me personally, self reflection is daily business and I would love to know more about myself. One thing I do already know I love Math, Engineering and geeky stuff but I also love painting and all forms of art/music.
ReplyDeleteI got majority Caregiver which is pretty spot on for me...I think its important to know who you are so you can focus on that and improve instead of wasting years trying to be something you are not.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting exercise. I think that a lot of us tend to think about who we are in terms of the various roles we play in our lives and/or how others perceive us. But I think that *we* have to know who we really are in order to consciously build on our strengths and overcome our weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteBefore taking the quiz, I would have said that my archetype was "nurturing", with "creative" a very close second. But the quiz surprised me--it said that I am 33% Caregiver, 29% Intellectual, and a measly 18% Creative. Creative gets only 18%??? I'm appalled! I thought I was more creative than that!! I AM... I really am!!
This has been so much fun! And thank you, Karen, for giving us the chance to win the gift card and book! xoxo
P.S. The pics of you are absolutely adorable!! I still think you're delusional in claiming that you're 50! :-P
You look so cute in these pictures. As for me, I tend to have interpersonal intelligence (knowledge of other people's feelings and interaction) but I am light on intrapersonal intelligence (knowing myself) so I definitely need this book! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure it’s important to really know who you are...I think it's more important to keep exploring who you are. Keep asking questions, challenging yourself, testing your limits, discovering your hidden talents, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, etc. Learning and changing and evolving are the keys to a vibrant life! I'd get bored if I thought I knew everything about myself. I guess I always want to have a little mystery left unsolved! ;)
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose one, I'd say I'm a Creative archetype, but honestly I'm a constantly changing spectrum of them. :)
You cannot love someone you do not know, and until you love yourself, it is difficult to truly love anyone else, and without love, life is meaningless. Getting to know the person known as "me" is a key to understanding the world around us and the wonderful people in it, to discovering the happiness, peace and love...that was there all along.
ReplyDeleteMy archetype is caregiver, I think it's important to know myself so I can prepare for stressful situations, and improve myself.
