My front door was sadly in need of a facelift. The black paint had gotten dull and scratched up over the years. This is the main door that we all use, and 4 teenagers (now young adults) really caused some wear and tear, going in and out of it all day long! Also, I can't believe I procrastinated 8 years on that sad little door knob, and as for the dated brass accessories ... well they really had to go! Especially after replacing the Light Fixtures, now they really stood out like a "sore thumb" as they say.
I popped on over to my local Ace Hardware Store and asked them to recommend their best Exterior Paint. They suggested their Royal Exterior House paint, so I grabbed a Quart of Paint, along with a new Kick Plate, and some Brushed Nickel Hardware. I also grabbed a good quality brush, I'm a firm believer that quality brushes give you a much better finish, you don't want to skimp on your brush!
Here's the door after I painted it and changed the Brass Kickplate to the brushed nickel one. Much nicer, already I think! Now to replace that knob ...
I personally love to paint and decorate, and I can use a power drill, sander and a few other tools, but I'm certainly not the handiest DIYer ever, and Mr. Fairy is even worse! Don't even get me started on the time that he glued my antique rocker to the porch! Anyway, there are times when it makes more sense to hire someone to help out with a project... as in, it might even save your marriage! haha! Ok, I'm joking about that, but you know what I mean, sometimes it can be stressful to do projects that you aren't super excited about, or aren't sure how to tackle, and in this economy if you are able to hire a someone local to help you out, it's a good thing for everyone. So ... anyway, I made an appointment with Craig at Ace Hardware, yesterday and by this morning he had my new lock installed and, he meticulously vacuumed and cleaned everything up. And in no time flat I had my gorgeous new lock on my front door!
Woohoo!
I'm so pleased with how it turned out, I think it's so much snazzier (oh geez, my Mother says that!) than it was before. Now I just need to add a nice Wreath!

Nice changes, Karen! It's funny how you don't think something as simple as a kickplate and doorknob can make a difference, but it definitely does.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy!! I am happy with the results, just wish I would have done it awhile ago!
DeleteWhat a wonderful transformation! I painted our front doors a couple years ago and now seeing yours I really need to change out our knobs too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
Thank you Debbie!! It does make a big difference, also it feels more secure, which is nice too!
DeleteOur front door is white with gold hardware... I seriously am going black and silver next spring! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pendra! The black and silver is a nice classic look that goes with lots of color color combos. I think you will like it!
DeleteLooks terrific. I've read that putting a new handle on your front door is a definite plus when you're putting your house on the market. You proved it. It's the first thing people see when they walk in.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that, but it makes sense! Thanks for sharing that tip!!
DeleteBeautiful! The new hardware really makes a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteThank you M!
