My House - The Living Room

If you read my main blog, you may have already seen these photos, but I'm trying to get things more organized around here, and I want to have all of my home photos together on this blog. Currently they're spread out over 3 different blogs, and that's just silly! Anyway ... this is my Living Room.

This is the before photo. This room was my husband's library at one time, thus the masculine red walls and manly looking furnishings. He moved his library to the back of the house and then this room became a dumping ground for the pieces that didn't fit into his new space. Also some other things made their way into this room over time. After a year of looking at all of THAT, it was time for a change! I managed to sell some of the pieces (even the drapes!) , in order, to purchase some new things, I also had been acquiring things and storing them in the garage for the last year, and, since I was closing out my space at Lucketts anyway, I saved some items for myself to put in this room. And lastly I pulled some things from other rooms, to place in here. All in all, it didn't cost that much, although I did have one splurge!  More on that later...

The first thing that I did was paint the walls a gorgeous Charcoal Gray. The color is by Sherwin Williams, it's called Gauntlet Gray. I used a tinted primer first and then it took about 2 coats of paint on top of that to cover the red.

The Horse Print and the Ikea Ektorp loveseat were pulled from other rooms. The large Iron Mirrors and Iron Industrial Tables were pulled from my former shop space at Lucketts, as well as the coffee table and chairs. The Sisal Rug came from Ikea.

The Antique Harvest Woman and Child print is a family piece, past down from my Grandparents.I picked up the Antique Sofa Table for under $100 at an Antique Mall in Pennsylvania. Score!  The antique Urn was another bargain, I snagged that at Lucketts. The other accessories came from my shop.

I'm always collecting Ironstone and have for years! I just love that it goes with everything! The White Curtains were hard to photograph, they were also come Ikea. They are really perfect for this space!

I was on a quest for the perfect Ikat Pillows, in just the right shade, and finally found them on Etsy!

These little Sunburst Mirrors are hard to photograph too, since they are in between the windows, there is a trio of them though. They also came from my shop.

This is the one piece of Furniture that I kept from before the redesign. It's a gorgeous Antique Mahogany Secretary that also belonged to my Grand Parents. I'm planning on hanging some ironstone platters and plates on the wall on either side of it.

Remember the splurge that I mentioned above? This is it! A pair of stunning Gemma Milk Glass Lamps from Pottery Barn! I had to have them, I looked everywhere for something similar but nothing came close, these were the perfect size and shape, and I love the Milk Glass look! They came with the shades and even have cute Milk Glass ball finials on the top. So stylish!

This is the inside of the Secretary. My husband moved all of his books out and I'm still working on styling the inside of it. As you can see I'm going with a white and brown theme, old books, Ironstone, white marble and coral. I'm not done yet, but it will be fun to collect things over time for it.

I'm really enjoying this room, it's got great light for reading. The best part of all is that it's at the front of the house, so when people drop by unexpectedly, I can invite them in and pretend that my whole house is this clean and tidy! haha!  I hope you enjoyed this tour.

    1. Hi Jerri, Oops! I guess I should have linked it! I always assume everyone comes here, through that blog. It's called The Graphics Fairy. If you click on "Vintage Images" just under my header, it will take you there. (I know it's confusing! A site redesign is in the works!!)

  10. I wondered what the big splurge was and then got distracted by the thought, "those lamps are fabulous!"

    The room looks great.

  12. Totally beautiful room! Even though I'm not a big fan of reds, they look good as accents in this charcoal-white awesomeness. The idea with the big mirrors is genius, at first glance they look like extra windows and give so much more light! Btw, I'm your newest follower.

  13. I love it when people aren't afraid to use a dark color in a room. It is SO soothing and beautiful. I want to grab a cup of hot cocoa or a glass of red wine (don't worry...I won't sit on the couch!) and relax with a good book. Love it!

  18. Karen, your living room is amazing! I love the Gauntlet Gray in here! I've been totally obsessing over dark gray paint colors lately :). Just painted two rooms in my house in similar colors. I'd love to feature this on my paint color blog. You wouldn't have to do a thing, just let me know if you're interested!
